Primal Pit Paste Review

Are you not happy with your standard deodorant/antiperspirants?  Are you looking for something natural, but are afraid to try something because you think it just won’t work?  Well I have got an answer for you and it is called Primal Pit Paste.  Let me get a little personal for a minute.  I may be a female, but I sweat.  My Finnish heritage has me longing for a cold and dry climate, but I love living in hot and humid South Florida.  And because of this, I have never been happy with commercial deodorants that are made with Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex GLY.  That just sounds wonderful doesn’t it?  I was never willing to try an all natural deodorant for the fear that it wouldn’t work well and I would be sweaty and smelly, but over the past few years I have been eating and using more organic and natural foods and items.  My husband and I were having a discussion last month about deodorants and the fact that there is a lot of talk about the link between the Aluminum in them and the growth of cancer.  Now I’ve read a few things and there really isn’t anything conclusive either way, but I’d rather be safe and use something more natural.

I remembered a segment on our local news that aired sometime last year about this Florida based company called Primal Pit Paste that was making all natural deodorants and decided to look into them.  I went to their website and looked over their products and reviews. I read a lot of good reviews and did not see one negative review and best of all, the deodorant only contains 4 ingredients!  Your standard deodorant contains 21 different ingredients, and one of which is BHT that is also suspected of promoting cancer growth in foods we eat.  Well  your deodorant is applied in the underarms and easily absorbed into the skin, especially for us women who shave our underarms.  So I took the plunge and ordered a jar.  It arrived in 3 days to my doorstep.

It comes in this nice glass jar that you can reuse for trinkets or lotion or whatever.  They have 4 different products: Kid’s Pit Paste, Regular Pit Paste, Strong Pit Paste, and a Pit Paste Stick.  I ordered the unscented to try out, but they also have some scented products which are made from essential oils and not a  synthetic fragrance.  They do recommend you start with regular, so your body can adjust and if you think you still need something more, then move on to the strong formula.

The consistency of it is like a good quality, thick body butter and it comes with a small wooden stick to get a little out of the jar.  You need no more than a pea sized amount to get a good coating.  When it arrived, it was melted from the heat of shipping, but I popped it in the refrigerator for 20 minutes and it was set up.  I do recommend putting it straight in the refrigerator before opening, otherwise you will have oil to clean up.  This is what it looks like:

So the question is does it work?  Why yes,  yes it does!  I’ve been using it for about a month now and am very pleased with it.  I have definitely put it to the test too.  I have worn it to Disney for 2 hot and humid days and I wore it for a 3 mile run in 86 degrees with 62% humidity after applying 24 hours prior.  It actually lasts through a shower too, since it is an oil/lotion.  As I am writing this, I never applied it today after my shower and it is still going strong from yesterday morning.  One of the best things is the smell, or lack of smell.  You know that funky smell that your standard deodorant gives  you after you have been sweating?  Well, Primal Pit Paste has no funky smell after sweating.  It is advertised as only a deodorant, but it definitely ends up as a natural antiperspirants also.  It sells for $8.95 a jar, but do not get turned off by the price. I have been using it for a month and have barely made a dent in the jar.

The only negative about it is not really bad.  Regular deodorant provides a barrier to prevent chaffing (I use it on my feet when I wear new sandals).  I have very sensitive skin, so when I stopped using the Aluminum based deodorant, I did get an irritation  from the seams of my shirts rubbing.  I just make sure I put a good coating of Primal Pit Paste and it has gone away.  In my opinion, this is well worth the money.  I love this deodorant and will be buying it for as long as they are selling it! I love to support small businesses, so look into Primal Pit Paste if you don’t want to smell.

FTC Disclosure: I purchased Primal Pit Paste with my own money.  No compensation was made for this review.  All thoughts on Primal Pit Paste are my own.
